The death of a bachelor

I’m cutting my mind off
It feels like my heart is going to burst
Alone at a table for two and I just wanna be served
And when you think of me am I the best you’ve ever had?
Share one more drink with me, smile even though you’re sad
– The death of a bachelor (by Panic! At the Disco)

Tick tock. Tick tock.

Half an hour has passed and he is getting a little worried. What if she knows what he is about to do and decides not to show up instead? A beep cuts into his thoughts and quickly, he opens the just-arrived text.

“Sorry love, there was a jam. I’ll be there in 5.”

He heaves a huge sigh of relief. Gulping down his wine, he signals for the waiter to pour him another glass.

“Will you marry me?” He whispers, practising under his breath.

An eye on the door, he goes through his plan with the waiter again. Everything needs to be perfect. Dinner will be served first and halfway during dessert, a gentleman will play the violin by their table and he will pop the question. A little cliche but he is sure she will love it.

His jaw drops when she finally comes through the door.

“Y-you look beautiful,” he stammers a little as he jumps to his feet.

Pulling the chair for her, he prays she will say yes. The death of a bachelor – if it is her, he is happy to see the demise of bachelorhood.

  1. I was grabbed by the Tick Tock, loved his practicing with the waiter and thought the little stammer a master touch. I guess she’ll say yes. X
