Prompt: Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner, Writing challenge: emotions

A birthday wish

“Enough is enough.”

Mumbling underneath his breath, he slips on his shoes and quickly makes his way out through the backdoor. He does not want to sit around and listen to more things being destroyed.

He is tired of all the fighting, all the screaming, and all the crying. All he wants is for them to be happy again – to smile from the heart. Today is supposed to be his happy day so he is going to buy himself a cake. He will get some candles, party hats and maybe party blowers for his younger siblings. He does not know how to help, except to remind them of the love that still exists in this household.

He hopes it works because in dreams and in love, there are no impossibilities.

Written in response to Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner Week 4 and Day 97 of 100-Day Writing Challenge

  1. A poignant tale that – I fear – might not have a happy ending. But then again, maybe a naive love of their child rekindles at least peace, if not love. Very well written!
